Sailing off the Coast of the Athens Riviera

Daydreaming about sailing in the Greek Islands but you only have enough days in your itinerary to visit Athens? Just twenty five minutes from the center of Athens, is a beautiful coast. It is fabulous and the home to many locals. For visitors, getting to the coast is quite easy by either taxi, tram or the local tour buses.

Unfortunately, many travelers and short time visitors are not aware of its existence and they truly miss out out on a treat! Many Athenians spend their summer lounging on these beautiful beaches and never leave Athens! Lined with a promenade of beaches, beach restaurants and bars, there are also a few marinas. It is at Alimos Marina, where we had the pleasure of spending an afternoon sailing along the coast of the Athens Riviera and it was da bomb!

I grabbed up a few friends and we were able to choose between a morning or an afternoon sail and embark on a last minute adventure away from the busy and hot city center of Athens. We chose the afternoon sail with the hope of getting in the sunset. And it did not disappoint!

From the moment we boarded the yacht, the infamous Greek hospitality was bestowed upon us. We were met by a lovely hostess and Captain who made our sail comfortable. We spent the afternoon sailing and exploring the southern coast of Athens. There were beautiful secluded coves and sandy beaches. And if you are a sunset lover, like me, you would more than appreciate this magnificent beautiful coast and the amazing Greek sunset!

There is nothing better than being able sit back, relax and unwind on a beautiful sailing yacht. Surrounded by amazing views, illuminating colors and the wind through our hair, we sipped on our welcome drinks. There were two great anchorages for swimming. The lovely hostess, prepared an amazing evening meal served with local wine. No one left the table hungry!

As we sailed on our return to the marina, the sunset was something to behold. No matter where you are in Greece, sunsets are amazing, and Athens is no exception! Choosing to sail on the Athens Riviera was a great way to relax and would be perfect after a busy day of Athenian sightseeing.
